FREUD Sigmund, Prof. MUDr. [ Notable personality ČR ]

FREUD Sigmund, Prof. MUDr.
Sigmund FREUD, Prof. MUDr.
*6.5.1856 Příbor
+ 23.9.1939 Londýn

He came from a Moravian Jewish family. In Příbor he spent only the first three years of his eventful life. Perhaps these particular years in Příbor (and his later visit as a student) had subconsciously influenced the scientific development of the founder of psychoanalysis. The world-famous doctor, psychiatrist and neurologist based his method of treatment on the technique of free associations and interpretation of dreams. His psychological school has extensively influenced the development of the discipline. The importance of dreams for our life, which consciously or unconsciously record our childhood wrongs as well as gains, is known all over the world today. And psychoanalysis, as a concept of personality development and a way of therapy for mental diseases, has finally become a recognized part of psychology even in our country.

Although he had spent his whole life in Vienna, Freud died in emigration in London, on the run from the malice of the German fascism. In the Příbor branch of the District Museum Relating to the National History and Geography there is an interesting exposition about Freud’s fate, which at least partially pays off the debt to the famous native.
